Our History

Sierra Summit Expeditions began over 14 years ago when James and Brett, two avid outdoor enthusiasts, met on a mutual friend's hiking trip in the Crystal Basin Recreation Area. What started as simple hiking and fishing excursions soon evolved into backpacking adventures, including snow camping and snow backpacking trips. Their love for the outdoors and passion for adventure naturally led them to share their experiences with others. Early on, they began inviting newcomers to join their expeditions, taking pride and finding fulfillment in teaching those new to backpacking the skills necessary for successful and enjoyable trips.

James and Brett's dedication to sharing their knowledge and passion for the wilderness has only grown stronger over the years. They have refined their approach to ensure that each trip is not only an adventure but also an educational experience. Their goal is to make backpacking accessible and enjoyable for everyone, especially those new to the activity.

Convenient Locations: Our trips are strategically planned to avoid the crowded, busier areas that are highly trafficked. Instead, we explore stunning, less-impacted locations that offer easier access for participants from the Bay Area and Sacramento. This allows us to provide a more authentic and immersive wilderness experience.

Personalized Attention: James and Brett are not only passionate about the outdoors but also about creating meaningful connections with each participant. As a husband, father of three, and professional in sales for over a decade, James brings a personable and engaging approach to guiding. Brett, a father and Certified Public Accountant with 15 years in the accounting industry, offers meticulous planning and attention to detail, ensuring every trip runs smoothly.

Our guides are trained in wilderness safety and are committed to providing a secure and supportive environment. At least one guide on each trip will be a Wilderness First Responder.
